Train Drawing #47 - Sound Effects Jenkins
Number 47 - "Sound Effects" Jenkins
If you are a hobo, consider changing your name to this. Actually, if you are a hobo and have somehow weaseled your way onto the internets, bravo my good fellow, you have graduated from hobodom and are well on your way to being President*.

Motion Blur in MentalRay
(not my bg, just something to mess with the renders on top of)
So, MentalRay looks great.
And, motion blur is kind of neat for quick, cartoony stuff.
Put them together and you get a big, bowl of slow.
If you like math, this is the equation: MR+MB=SLOW.
Anybody have any decent looking motion-blur-in-post solutions?
Getting late, bed calling.
Need to investigate this MB in MR situation further tomorrow.
Oh, and bring a drill for Sean.
And Up blu-ray for the other Sean.

It's ALIIIIVE!!!
Here's a short giblet of animation.
Uno is very sad here. So sad, in fact, that not even icecream will cheer him up. Good try though cyclops... good try.
Ears are a bit too floppy/floaty/mushy/squishy. I'll have to sort that out.

Sloooooooowwwwww Renders
For some reason the tooth brushing sequence is taking a long time (30 mins!) to render a frame. Mentalray was doing a really good job with the other sequences, which are essentially the same... just Uno and a couple props.
I noticed that some frames render in about 4 mins and some take 32 mins, could this variation be due to motion blur?
Anybody know rendering or mentalray enough to comment?

Bad Drawings of Stupid Things (and the opposite)
Coming soon!
(depending on how fast Mr. Scanner is)
(depending on how fast Mr. Scanner is)
29 seconds plus 16 seconds
I wish I had the strength of ten men .. or someone like Steven Segal or Chuck Norris or the Captain of the Steve Irwin; Paul Watson. If I did, I could animate more during the week nights.
The last two weekends have been productive though, 29 seconds and 16 seconds of animation done! Running total is somewhere over 2 minutes... the short is around 5 so I'm well on my way!

100% smooth is not the best
So we all animate on low-res characters and things look nice and chunky and the world is a happy place. Then you finish your scene and turn on smoothed-mode and your character goes to mushy, smooth, noodle land.
Mushy, smooth noodle land is not the best.
Turn down the smoothing to 0.5 and experience +10 happy points.

Backgrounds
Well, these pretty little characters need a pretty, little background to live in ... nothing really working for me yet.

Firing Up The Blog
It's almost time to start real production on my short film, Eye Like Pizza.
Maybe I'll give this bloggy thingy a shot?!
Here's Uno the cyclops pizza gardener:Character Design Lesson Number 1:
If you character doesn't look right, it's probably because he is lacking in mustache.
